Bas Rutten Anti-Asshole Self Defense (Or what not to do if you're NOT Bas, mainly because you will die horribly)

Bas Rutten, MMA legend and one of the few non-Lebanese with an ego as large as the People's Republic of China's armies, does comedy AND self defense in these two tragicomic videos: Tragic because they will get your ass kicked faster than a Gothic in a Maddox article, and funny because, well, because they're ridiculously FUN! (Especially the booty thief defense I pissed myself on that one!)

I sure hope that Bas was joking when he made them. Actually, he was, and has some of the quirkiest jokes ever. Plus he managed to keep a straight face during the shooting of the vid itself. If that isn't a proof of superior self discipline, I don't know what is.

Ok, here goes:

The Comedy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNXRInrSSVU&feature=related

Damn that was fun! I personally saved the videos on my computer to watch if I ever become depressed.

If you're offended, bouhoufuckinghou! This is NOT Self Defense, it's an easy make-enemies-faster-than-BinLaden-in-a-Texas-DARPA-convention. Rant off.

Hmm, I wouldn't diss Bas quite so quickly, if it works for the likes of him, Geoff Thompson and many others then hey it works. Might not be appropriate for those without the support systems and required attitude but in the jungle other animals respect aggression and power. In some areas of the world the passive approach might get you killed even quicker than outward aggression

Very true bro. But as I mentioned in the title of the article, this will get you killed if you're NOT Bas. To me, self defense should be doable by anyone, not just big hunky guys, and testosterone filled 20yrs old. I am sure Bas is an amazing MMA fighter (and I wasn't dissing him, just dissing what he was teaching as Self Defense, nuance), and truly respect and look up to Geoff Thompson for his pioneering work and contribution to RBSD. However, my mother cannot posture and punch cross uppercut crucifix choke some guy. But she can palm strike or shred and run from a non- threatening posture.

I have a problem with people selling MMA repacked as Self Defense because it lacks in the emotional, behavioral, and psychological arenas, not to mention that the physical aspect, while very effective for a fit athlete, might not be feasible for the elderly, the overweight geek, or females with handicaps.

It is true that, in certain regions/ countries that looking submissive or passive will get you killed (for example Latin America). However, your deescalation stance does not need to be passive at the beginning or during the conflict: You can protect your centerline and look polite but not groveling in an attempt to end violence, escalating the violence or deescalating it (along with the posture) if needed. However, posturing and verbal escalation will most of the time increase the opponents)'s own desire to save face, and the potential for violence will increase accordingly. Again, there are no absolutes in survival.

Sorry for the delay in answering, I was offline for the past 3 days.

I also will write a small article regarding the importance of support systems and will post it within the next 2 days.
